I am really excited to post this recipe. I have been meaning to try black bean burgers for months and just never got around to making them….until now. I’ve had the privilege of trying black bean burgers at several restaurants and have enjoyed every one I’ve tried. So I tried to combine my most favorite flavors for this burger.
Vegetarian Black Bean Burger: (vegan, dairy free, can be made gluten free by using GF flour/oats)
Makes 8 patties
1 can black beans, rinsed and drained
1/2 cup baked sweet potato
1/2 cup bell pepper (I used a combination of green, red, and yellow)
1/2 red onion
1 roasted red pepper
1 egg of choice
3 cloves garlic (or you can use a few tbsp of garlic powder)
1 tbsp chili powder
2-3 spoonfuls Carolina bbq seasoning
1/2 cup whole wheat flour (or bread crumbs or oats)
1) preheat oven to 375 degrees. mash your black beans in a bowl. Add in your pepper, onion, and red pepper. Mix well.
2) add in your egg and spices. Finally add in your whole wheat flour until your mixture is sticky and holds together.
3) line your baking sheet with some foil. form your patties and place onto your foil. Bake for 10 minutes on each side. Half way through baking, sprinkle a little of the bbq seasoning on top of your patties.
Once the patties were done, I finished mine off with a whole wheat sandwich thin, some red onion, lettuce, and Monterey Jack cheese. Flavorful, satisfying, and filling. Overall, these are a great basic burger that you can play up or play down depending on what you’re craving.
Question of the day:
Have you ever had a black bean burger? Did you like it?
