Toss it up: grain salad variations


Here is a great little guide I found for a great twist on the traditional salads out there. These salads incorporate great grains, veggies, and healthy takes on dressings (which are often the downfall in salads).

Rather than using all veggies, grains add not only great texture and extra flavor but they also add extra nutrition. Whole grains are great sources of fiber, which many people need more of in their diets. Yes, I’m talking to you :p

Another great way to add extra fiber to your diet is to add a sprinkle of chia seeds to your salad. Chia seeds are not only a great source of fiber but they’re also a great source of omega 3 fatty acids. The color of the chia seeds you use does matter. the white variety is higher in protein while the black variety is higher in fiber. However, they add no extra flavors so they are great to add to anything. I have to say they have been my new favorite health food just because they are so easy to add to anything and everything.
